I have always been fascinated with mushrooms (macrofungi in general.) Which was why choosing it as my thesis topic for my senior year in college as a Biology major was perfect. I never got to share all the interesting macrofungal species I found during my study though, so I'm making up for it.
This is a possible species of Hebeloma. I can't quite pinpoint the exact scientific name (it's crazy difficult) of this particular species (yes you have to say "species" for both singular and plural forms.) They are quite tiny, about 3-4 inches. I found them growing on the soil. Their caps have this rusty color while their gills and stipe have a pale flesh color. This is one of my favorite species out of the 51 I found and identified. How cute are they?! :)
